In April 2008 Eurovet Animal Health The Netherlands organised the “Power of Simplicity” symposium with the emphasis on hypothyroidism and dermatology for companion animals.
The symposium was a great success, with more than 200 professionals in the companion animal sector attending. Hypothyroidism is one of the most common endocrine disruptions in canines. The diagnosis is made by evaluating clinical symptoms, most of which are not specific to this complaint. Hypothyroidism’s primary physical symptoms are generally considered to be overweight and behavioural changes, but there is no doubt that dermatological symptoms also need consideration. The programme featured presentations by, among others, Dr Hans Kooistra from the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals at Utrecht University and Dr Sebastian Schleifer from the European College of Veterinary Dermatology (Munich, Germany). The symposium revolved around the Forthyron® and Douxo® product lines. Forthyron®
is an easily administered and user-friendly product to treat canine hypothyroidism. The drug is available in two strengths: 200 µg and 400 µg. The symposium also saw the launch of the Douxo® product line. This innovative line supports the treatment of dermatological problems such as allergies and seborrhoea and ensures the easy and effective treatment of dogs and cats.
Douxo® - The Power of Simplicity Douxo® is an innovative product line that supports the treatment of dermatological problems such as allergies and seborrhoea. Powerful skin recovery The Douxo® product line contains new active ingredients such as phytosphingosine (a natural pro-ceramide: one of the skin’s own building blocks) and hinokitiol (red cedar extract with natural antibacterial, fungicidal and anti-inflammatory properties). Douxo also contains active ingredients and auxiliary substances that bring the epidermis back into balance and cover it with a protective layer made from Fomblin, Lipidure C and Glycofilm. Simple practical application As the Douxo® product line was developed to facilitate treatment for dogs and cats, it features a diverse range of application methods that can be used in combination: shampoo, micro-emulsion spray, spray gel, micellary lotion and spot-on. A clear treatment protocol is available for every dermatological problem.
